Silo on Android phone and tablet

Install the Silo app from Google Play on your Android phone or tablet.

Last updated

Needs Android 7.0 or newer. The Silo apps are made by the Silo project, not by Plextreme.

The Silo app is on Google Play, listed as Silo Media Player by Silo Media. Google Play is the safest way to install it, and it keeps the app up to date for you.

  1. Open the Google Play app on your phone or tablet and search for "Silo Media Player", or open the Google Play listing (opens in a new tab).
  2. Check the developer is Silo Media, then choose Install.
  3. Open Silo and sign in. Enter the Silo address from your welcome email or dashboard. Use the username and password you chose at checkout.

If your device cannot use Google Play

Use these steps only if Google Play does not show the app on your device, or your device cannot reach Google Play.

  1. Open this address in your phone's web browser: https://github.com/Silo-Server/silo-android/releases/latest/download/silo-android-latest-universal-release.apk
  2. The browser will say the file could be harmful. That is normal for any app from outside the store. If you used the address on this page, allow the download.
  3. Allow your browser to install apps (see rule 2 in the safety article). Open the file and install it.
  4. Open Silo and sign in as in the steps above.
  5. Switch "Install unknown apps" off for your browser, and delete the file.

The Downloader code (listed by the Silo project)

The Silo project also lists a Downloader code for the Android phone app: 1051382. Downloader is made for TVs, and the project's page says to use it on Android TV and Google TV, so it may not work on a phone. Use Google Play, or the browser address above, first.

If you want to try it: in Downloader's Home box type 1051382 and choose Go, then choose Install.

Signing in

The Silo project says its Android apps can sign in with a username and password, or with a device or QR sign in. We have not tried the QR or device sign in ourselves, so use your username and password if you are not sure.

If something goes wrong, see Silo troubleshooting.
