Silo on Android TV and Google TV
Get the Silo app on Android TV or Google TV from the app store, or with Downloader if it is not there.
Last updated
Needs Android 7.0 or newer. The Silo apps are made by the Silo project, not by Plextreme.
Silo is in the app store on Google TV, and on other Android TV devices that offer it, where it is called Silo Media Player. Look there first. If your TV does not offer it, use Downloader instead (see further down). Have a Fire TV Stick? Fire TV cannot use Google Play. See Silo on Fire TV.
The Silo project says the Android TV app cannot do the first time server setup by itself. So do the setup once on another device first, then sign in on the TV.
Step 1, once, on another device
Open the Silo address from your welcome email or dashboard in a web browser, or in the Silo app on your phone or iPad, and make sure you can sign in with the username and password you chose at checkout.
Step 2, on the TV: look in the store first
- Open the app store on the TV (Google Play on Google TV and Android TV) and search for "Silo Media Player". Check the developer is Silo Media.
- If you see it, choose Install, then Open.
- Sign in on the TV with the username and password you chose at checkout, or use the QR code or device pairing if the TV shows it. If it asks you to choose a server, pick the Silo address from your welcome email or dashboard.
If you installed it this way you can stop here. You do not need Downloader or "Install unknown apps".
If your TV does not offer Silo in the store: use Downloader
Some devices do not list the app. Then use the Downloader app and the Silo project's Downloader code.
- Install the Downloader app (by AFTVnews) from the Google Play store on the TV. Search for "Downloader".
- Allow Downloader to install apps: Settings, then Privacy or Security, then Install unknown apps, then Downloader. Menu names vary between TVs. Remember to switch it off again when you have finished.
- Open Downloader. In the Home box, type 2249835 and choose Go.
- When it downloads, choose Install, then Open.
- Sign in on the TV as in step 3 above.
- Switch "Install unknown apps" off again for Downloader and delete the downloaded file when Downloader offers it.
The code, 2249835, is the Silo project's own Downloader code for its Android TV app. Only use the code on this page. Do not use a code from a message, a video comment, a forum, or anyone who contacts you.
Signing in on the TV
The Silo project says its Android apps can sign in with a username and password, or with a device or QR sign in. The TV app cannot do the first time server setup by itself, so set the server up from a phone app or a web browser first, then sign the TV in with your username and password, or with the QR or device sign in if the TV offers it. We have not tried the QR or device sign in ourselves, so if you are not sure, use your username and password.
If something goes wrong, see Silo troubleshooting.
